Explorer Flight Missions: U.S. National Parks - Part 1 (July 2022)

Following the success of our initial rollout of Explorer Flight Missions, and the consequent missions, here are our next Explorer Flight Missions, which focus on U.S. National Parks. Thank you to TPC Staff member Evan for an exciting selection this month!

You can fly these on your own or get a group going - it’s up to you. Make sure you choose an appropriate aircraft and conduct proper flight planning. Let the adventure begin!

To get the Explorer server role (access to Explorers DISCORD channel) and 500 TPC Points for each flight:

  1. Fly to or from any of the airports on this list.

  2. Leave a comment on this post with the ICAO code of the airport you flew into. Feel free to share more details about your flight, if you’d like.

  3. Post a pic from your flight in screenshots channel on DISCORD.

 

1. X01 - Everglades Airpark. Everglades, FL.

Everglades Airpark is a public-use airport located 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the central business district of the city of Everglades City in Collier County, Florida, United States.

The airport is also known as the 10,000 islands outpost, which hosts seasonal sightseeing tours and banner towing.

2. KBHB - Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park). Trenton, ME

Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport is a county-owned, public-use airport located in Trenton, Maine, eight nautical miles (9 mi, 15 km) northwest of the central business district of Bar Harbor, a city in Hancock County, Maine, United States. It serves the residents of Hancock County with commercial and charter aviation services.

3. KGCN - Grand Canyon National Park Airport. Grand Canyon, AZ.

Grand Canyon National Park Airport is a state-owned public-use airport located in Tusayan, CDP in unincorporated Coconino County, Arizona, United States. It is near Grand Canyon National Park, 7 miles (6.1 nmi; 11 km) from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The airport is primarily used for scenic tours and charter flights.

4. KWYS - Yellowstone. West Yellowstone, MT.

Yellowstone Airport is a state-owned public-use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) north of the central business district of West Yellowstone, a town in Gallatin County, Montana, United States. Although only open from June through September, commercial passenger service is available during those months. Scheduled airline service is subsidized by the Essential Air Service program.

5. 6V4 - Wall Municipal Airport. (Badland National Park). Wall, SD

Wall Municipal Airport is a public-use airport located less than 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of Wall in Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. The airport is publicly owned by the City of Wall. The city has completed plans to extend the runway to 4,418 feet (1,347 m). The plans have completed the permitting stage but construction has not taken place as of March 2022.
