Cool spots to fly around in MSFS2020

The Pilot Club - C172 in the mountains

Microsoft Flight Simulator has some amazing locations to explore. Using photogrammetry provides breathtaking views like no other simulator. Take a break from the airliners and explore many cool places on the planet! We compiled a list of five cool sightseeing destinations in the U.S. from Flightspots.co to explore this month. Don’t forget to post your adventures in the DISCORD server!

1. Mount St Helens, WA, United States

Famous for its massive eruption on May 18 in 1980. The deadliest and most economically destructive volcano eruption in US History. Part of the Cascade Range volcanoes, Mountains St. Helens is consisting of lava rock interlayer with ash pumice and other other deposits. The area is highly detailed in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and well worth a visit. Taking off from Portland International (KPDX) makes for a pleasant flight there and back.

2. Idaho Sawtooth Mountain Range, United States

Sawtooth Mountain Range located in the Sawtooth National Forest, approximately 60 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho USA. Great location for backcountry flying with dozens of lakes for float and amphibious planes with mountain peaks over 10,000 feet.

3. Zions National Park, Utah, United States

There are two distinct parts of Zions National Park in Southern Utah. The lesser traveled part is far west and is stunningly rendered in the Sim with soaring red cliffs and verdant green covering much of the desert location in this part of the park. Take off from a small strip UT27 heading north and you’ll run into this scenery just bearing north and slightly east. Fly a few circles in this area for an hour and land in St. George (KSGU). Spectacular!

4. Fiery Furnace, Arches National Park, Utah, United States

Arches National Park has some of the most bizarre and beautiful topography anywhere in the American southwest and it is rendered remarkably over the Fiery Furnace section of the park. Take of from Canyonlands (KCNY) heading east and look for the Balanced Rock Point of Interest which sits at the southwest edge of the Fiery Furnace. After checking it out, you can land back at Canyonlands or head further into that National Park for some of the best Canyon flying anywhere in the Sim.

5. Upper Falls, Yellowstone, United States

Flying around Yellowstone is worth your time. Upper Falls render is one of the better looking "static" waterfalls and the round trip from West Yellowstone Airport is more scenic and more rewarding than the flight out to Niagara Falls in my opinion. Follow the only road into the park (head a bit south east from take off and you can't miss the only road into the park). Follow it to the ring road and head northeast east to Canyon and both upper and lower falls. You can also follow it south and see some geysers on your way to the Grand Pismatic Spring. Multiple nice canyons to follow in the park.
